A lil' fun "Fall Fix-up"

I don't think there is an easier or more fun season to decorate than Fall. There is so much beautiful color everywhere and simple items to accent with are readily available and relatively inexpensive - which is all the better!
So here is just a simple lil' idea I thought I'd share.
We'll call them - Burlap Chair Tiebacks
First off I picked up my burlap from our wonderful local feed store - Central Farmers Supply - who conveniently sells burlap by the foot and it is extra wide - so I divided it to make it go twice as far.
I simply draped it over my chairs on the porch, gathering it at the bottom, tied with some raffia and tucked in some fall leaves and artificial sunflowers.
Now honestly, you could use so many pretty things on the tie-back such as dried hydrangeas or Indian corn, pretty ribbons - well, you can imagine. I just wanted something simple and something I could leave out for a while ('cause you know, Indian corn draws unwanted critters sometimes).
I cut a piece of burlap for a runner as well...
...which I added another piece of fabric over. This two yards of orange and black plaid came from the Mission store for only a quarter - that's right, $.25. I haven't cut it yet because I may make pillow covers out of it - so now, it is simply folded over to give the table a lil' color.
What would you put in your burlap tiebacks?
Happy Creating everybody!
Cathy

I figured it out...

...thanks to the comment from "flipflopmom". Everybody was so kind to help me and offer advice - but her answer was just what it took to straighten out the "picture posting problem". So thank you - thank you. Now I'm back in the swing of things!
I've been wearing my polka-dot rain boots a lot lately - but not today - it is gonna be another BEEEEEAUTIFUL day!
Happy Wednesday!
Cathy
p.s. - Y'all are wanting to know where I got these rain boots, aren't you? -
Wal-Mart - last year - they were a sweet gift from my precious sister, Stephanie

Fall Harvest Gathering 2009

Well my friends, I'm sorry I've been gone for a week or so - I'm still trying to play catch up from our annual fall harvest gathering we had last weekend. To all of you who stopped by - thank you, thank you, thank you! It was a wonderful day!!!! The weather was gorgeous, everyone was in a festive spirit, the food was delicious and I think everybody had a great time - especially me. You'll see in the pictures below that I didn't get to take pics of any of the people 'cause once they started coming - I never had a second to pick up the camera. But you will see a few shots of the store, the garden, the yard where people sat and shared stories and some other tidbits here and there.
In my 11 years doing this - I have always felt blessed by the turnout and the overwhelming support of our local community. I'm so grateful and appreciative. And I'm especially thankful for all those beautiful, special friends in my life who come through for me every time with either incredible desserts, running to the store, sweeping the floor - well, you name it - somebody has offered to help do it. So thank you my sweet friends - Nell, Ms. Evelyn, Janet, Cissy, Andi, Kim and my precious grandmothers, mom and mother-n-law for always lending a hand. There is no way I could have done it without you!
Have a happy fall Y'all!
Blessings,
Cathy

It's time for Plantin'...Again

Yes, the seasons are beginning to change here a bit and people are getting the bug to decorate for fall. I think I'll start mine this weekend as well. Here are a few things that will help get you started...
...under the umbrella today...
...beautiful "purple Baron" millet that will soon have deep purple cattail like blooms...

...patio sunflowers - perfect for pots -'cause they stay short...

...one of my favorites - ornamental cabbage and kale...just getting ready to make their colorful centers...

...or you can be like some - and get them already planted for you - just grab 'em and go...

...so happy plantin' my friends.

I'll show you more planting ideas for fall flowers next week - we are getting ready for our annual "Fall Harvest" celebration which will be next weekend. Oh there is so much to do - wish you all were close enough to help me get ready - like pick pumpkins, tie up Indian Corn - make fodder shocks, hunt down bittersweet - we'd have such a great time - a lot of work but a lot of fun too. Just will me your good energy over the next few days so I can get it all done! And if you are close enough to come - please do - we'd love to have you!
Happy Labor Day weekend everybody - enjoy your family and friends!
Blessings,
Cathy
